Meet Congressman Fred Upton (R-Michigan) Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce!

Congressman Fred Upton

With the House of Representatives turning from Democrat domination to Republican majority this past November, and John Boehner becoming the speaker of the House, so too did the committee chairs change.

With these changes, 12-term Congressman Fred Upton (R-Michigan) assumed the chairmanship of the high profile Committee on Energy and Commerce. As such he has tremendous power and influence in environmental issues.

Fred Upton was first elected to The House in 1986, and is an establishment Republican. He is 57 years old, married and lists his religion as Congregationalist.

Upton claims to be a moderate on 'climate change' and has recently denied there is a 'human role' playing a part in it. In the past he has said "the EPA plan to regulate carbon emissions in an unconstitutional power grab" and will cost America 1,000's of jobs.

Upton has called for opening the National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling and wants to scale back Utility Company pollution regulations.

This is a moderate on climate change?
